Fast and Furious scandal receives renewed attention (amended)

*Notice. This article has been amended in the 3rd paragraph.

When the U.S. House of Representatives conducted its investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal, it appeared that a dead end had been reached when the Obama administration and Attorney General Eric Holder in particular refused to turn over subpoenaed documents and answer questions fully and truthfully.

The result was that Holder was held in contempt of Congress, a first for any Attorney General. And the investigation into the scandal was placed on the back burner due to the fact that the administration refused to provide material that was necessary for a thorough and complete investigation.

However, citizen investigative reporter Mike Vanderboegh, who along with National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea were the first to break the Fast and Furious story in December of 2010, has received information that CBS News investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson has uncovered new information concerning the scandal. (Amended as follows: Further review has revealed that Attkisson's tweet indicating new information referred to Obamacare and not Fast and Furious).

Attkisson has not yet issued a report on the information. (This sentence should be deleted).

But on Dec. 9, 2013, Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs interviewed former ATF agent John Dodson, one of the original whistleblowers who alerted his supervisors and reporters that illegal activity was taking place in the Phoenix Field Division of the ATF. Dodson and a few of his colleagues discovered that the agency was engaged in an illegal scheme to walk U.S. guns into Mexico using "straw purchasers" who would buy the weapons in gun shops near the southern border, whereupon they would take the guns across the border and place them directly into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

Dodson has written a book on the fiasco titled, "The Unarmed Truth." And he told Dobbs that even now there are still many unanswered questions about the scandal, the ATF's involvement, and how far up the chain in the Obama administration the guilt goes.

Many believe that such a massive operation could not have been approved or conducted without the knowledge and approval of individuals at the highest levels of government, including Holder and Barack Obama. The extensive investigation uncovered a direct connection with Hillary Clinton and the State Department as well. And then there is the FBI connection.

In short, the operation was massive, and 2,500 heavy duty, military grade U.S. firearms were sent directly to some of the most dangerous criminals on earth -- the Mexican drug cartels.

But why? The investigation discovered the answer to that question as well. The Obama Administration wanted to "prove" its false meme that "90 percent of the guns used by Mexican criminals come from the United States." This was conceived as a means of swaying public opinion to support massive new gun control laws although the premise was 100 percent false.

The fact that the administration stonewalled the Congressional investigation and refused to provide subpoenaed documents has made it impossible to go any further in holding the perpetrators responsible.

Concerned citizens demand answers to remaining questions about this most horrific scandal.
