Fake Bob Dylan Twitter account exposed, debunked, suspended

As if Bob Dylan didn’t already have enough problems.

Earlier today, the Twitterverse and the Bob Dylan fan community were all abuzz about a supposed new “official” Twitter account, featuring personal tweets from Mr. Dylan himself.

The account, @BobDylanTweets, featured a familiar photograph of the legendary singer-songwriter-author-artist. It also included the description, "BOB DYLAN This is my only official and personal Twitter account," followed by "USA" and the URL for Dylan's official site.

The first two tweets were:

  • "My first tweet. Hi! Bob"
  • "Joining Twitter today. First time."

By late morning, @BobDylanTweets was following over 400 accounts, and had accumulated over 3000 followers of its own.

The unverified account was immediately questioned by many as fake, although it was also reported as fact by some media outlets. A spokesperson for Dylan later confirmed it was, indeed, a fake account.

The account has since been suspended.
