Last night's party celebrating ex-Kiss member Bruce Kulick's release for his BK3 album released today, was filmed for Kiss bassist Gene Simmons' television reality show, Gene Simmons' Family Jewels. The party was held at the Cat Club on Hollywood's Sunset Strip. In addition to Gene Simmons, Kiss guitarist Tommy Thayer and Kiss drummer Eric Singer were also there, adding further life to the party.
Simmons' son Nick sings the track "Hand Of The King" on Kulick's new album. While performing on stage last night, Kulick told the audience that he wrote the song with Nick. The Kiss "Demon's" prodigy performed at the party on two songs with Kulick's band assembled for last night's gig. On stage, Kulick stated that the band held only one rehearsal for the night's gig. Axe slinger Simmons' family jewels, Shannon Tweed and daughter Sophie also came to see the performance. Gene Simmons stood back, entranced, watching the band. He also kept a close eye on his son Nick while he performed on stage. Nick is no stranger to Kiss fans, as he has appeared on Simmons' reality show. After Nick performed, Kulick commented, "He's got a big voice. I wonder where he got that from!" The audience responded with loud applause.
Jeremy Rubolino, who produced the BK3 was also there, as was Steve Lukather, who played on the album. Bassist Rudy Sarzo was among other musicians who came to celebrate the release of Kulick's third solo album. Detroit Rock City associate producer Tim Sullivan was also present.
The core band playing with Kulick on guitar was comprised of Brent Fitz on drums, Todd Kerns on guitar and vocals, and Adam Kury on bass and vocals. Fitz had played with Kulick in the band Union. The band played a few songs from the BK3 album, including "No Friend Of Mine."
The band also played Kiss' "Hell Or High Water," from the band's Crazy Nights album. Kulick had played on that Kiss album, the band's highest selling album of the 1980's. The band also played a song that Kulick introduced as being "from (Kiss member) Paul Stanley," "Tears Are Falling." The song appeared on Asylum, the first Kiss album on which Kulick played. Another Kiss classic was played, "God Gave Rock And Roll To You II," the last song on which late Kiss drummer Eric Carr is heard. Carr succumbed to cancer on November 24,1991. Although Carr was too ravaged from his illness to play, he is heard on part of that track's vocals.
Eric Carr's former Playboy model and former girlfriend, Carrie Stevens, was among those at the event.
Kulick's band also played "Heart Of Chrome," which Kulick introduced by saying, "Here's something from my favorite Kiss album, Revenge." Kiss has never played the song live.
After the performance, Kulick told Examiner.com, "I'm exhilarated and exhausted!"
Unexpectedly for all who were there last night, Ron Jeremy, who has appeared in adult films, as well as a stint on VH1's Surreal Life, walked in.
A signed LTD/ESP guitar was given away in a drawing, courtesy of ESP guitars. The guitars Kulick played guitars last night included his red ESP.
