Ready for some scoop on the end of "Bones" season 9? On Wednesday, May 7, we joined a conference call with the FOX hit's stars, Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, to find out what's coming up in the season's last two episodes.
Meet the new squintern The penultimate episode of the season, "The Drama in the Queen," introduces the new squintern, Jessica Watten, played by Laura Spencer. "Brennan thinks that the new squintern is very good at her job, except she does not care for the way she guesses about things and makes assumptions," Deschanel previewed. "Brennan respects her but likes to keep her in line because she goes off on tangents a bit. She's a little too intuitive for Brennan."
However, while Jessica may not get off to the best start with Sweets, that could change. "She really rubs Sweets the wrong way, but then that attention might turn to a romantic way. She has some interest in Sweets," Deschanel said.
A big finale cliffhanger There is a lot coming up in the season finale, "The Recluse in the Recliner," directed by Boreanaz, whose work behind the camera Deschanel took the time to praise. "There were lots of elements that were involved, whether it was dealing with the big huge hearing in front of Congress or the intense battle between other forces that could come in and jeopardize Bones and Booth's relationship," the episode's director teased, with Deschanel adding, "There's a big cliffhanger. There's a lot going on for Booth and Brennan."
Everything is tied together in the finale, and the dead body of the week is that of a conspiracy blogger, Wesley Foster. Booth doesn't know him, but the blogger calls him up saying he wants to talk about the McNamaras. "This has to do with a broader part of the McNamaras," Deschanel explained. "The next thing you know, this guy is burned to death in his trailer. …It leads us to think there might be people involved with this at the FBI."
But what will this season finale mean for Booth and Brennan's relationship? The actress teased "a huge thing" at the end of the episode that changes everything, including Booth's job and possibly Brennan's job. "It will change the dynamic and everything about them and their work and relationship," she said. "It puts them in a different place, for sure," Boreanaz added. "There's a lot of destructive forces that come upon us and we find out that there's more to it than what meets the eye and they've been working underground for a while. … It all kind of comes to a head, and it's pretty detrimental at the end. Things will change for the good, and there will be also things that they will have to adjust to. I keep saying adjusting because it's definitely going to be different."
"Bones" season 9 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on FOX. The season finale airs May 19. How do you think the season is going to end?
