El Loco roller coaster opens at Circus Circus in Vegas

After a few delays in its actual debut, the new El Loco roller coaster thrilled riders at the Circus Circus Adventuredome in Las Vegas yesterday ( according to a PR Newswire report published 2/19/2014 ). The first riders of the new coaster raved about it, including one rider who called it the best ride ever after having ridden over 60 coasters in his life.

The new coaster features a 72-second thrill excursion involving a 90-foot ascent, lateral hairpin turns, negative vertical G drops, and a 180-degree turn that culminates in a barrel roll. Attaining a maximum speed of 45 m.p.h., El Loco has small four-person cars that feature surround-sound speaker systems belting out Latin, Hip-Hop, and Rock music tracks. The smaller ride vehicles allow tight and fast turns relative to some coaster cars.

This El Loco is the only indoor coaster of its kind in the US and the second indoor coaster of its type in the world. El Loco coasters, designed by S & S Worldwide, are located in Indiana, the UK, France, Australia, and China.

Ticket costs for the new coaster are $10 for a single ride or as an inclusion in the purchase of a $29.95 Adventuredome Premium all-day ride pass (which is a better deal for multiple rides on El Loco and other rides).

The Adventuredome is the world's largest indoor theme park and also features a second roller coaster (the Canyon Blaster) that has been operational for years. The theme park is open 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. until midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sundays.
