Eat this to help balancing your hormones

On your road to a healthy life, you've probably considered two important areas: diet and exercise. While they both play a vial role in your quest to lose unwanted weight, there’s another factor to consider: your hormones. They don’t just rear their ugly head during your teenage years; they can still make your life a bit more difficult. While you’re not a pimple-faced teen anymore, your hormones can still everything from your mood to your weight. There are ways to keep your hormones in check with the right food choices. Consider following these tips:

Avoid Omega-6 Polyunsaturated Fats
Wow, that’s a mouthful, right? That long-named fat is commonly found in vegetable oil, which the body has a tough time breaking down. This kind of fat can cause your cells to mutate and clog arteries. In other words, skip the vegetable oil, peanut oil, canola oil, margarine and shortening. Go for olive oil or real butter instead.

Limit the caffeine
One of the best ways to short-circuit your hormones system is to fill it with caffeine. Think of how you feel on a “caffeine high,” that’s your body trying to flip your switch from overdrive back to normal. If giving up caffeine isn't in the cards for you, try limiting your intake to a cup a day. If you’re a soda drinker, you’ll certainly want to limit the amount you’re drinking. Soda is one of the worst empty-calories offenders there is. If you’re a caffeine addict, check out the Mayo Clinic’s recent article, “How much caffeine is too much?”

Get some rest
Sleeping is the body’s way of rebooting. Your body runs a series of checks and balances while you catch some much-needed rest and makes any adjustments it needs, but the truth is, few people actually get the right amount of sleep. The American Psychological Association estimates that 40 million Americans suffer from over 70 different sleep disorders. Without the right amount of sleep, your hormones kick into high gear. Once your hormones are out of whack, you’re less likely to meet or keep your weight loss goals. Bottom line: your body needs rest.

Check your hormone levels
If you’re wondering where your hormone levels are at, you can always visit your doctor or get your levels checked at a health center. Typically, your body will give you little clues that something has gone awry with your hormones. You might feel tired, have trouble losing weight or feel moody. If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s a good idea to get your level checked. Your quest for a healthier lifestyle will involve a lot of changes - some big, some small. Eating right, watching your portion sizes and hitting the gym regularly is a great start, but don't forget to take your hormones into account. They can present a roadblock in your get-fit efforts.
