In the bustling Tampa suburb of Spring Hill, Fla., a drunken and naked 10-year-old boy, intoxicated on booze given to him by his mother, was found wandering the streets and rescued by some Good Samaritans in the neighborhood, as reported by The Daily News on Feb 19.
The Spring Hill couple that initially came across the drunk and naked boy brought him to Amanda Roesch, a neighbor, who called the authorities.
Roesch said that "he was so intoxicated he didn't realize that he didn't have any clothes on."
The 31-year-old mother, Nedra Byrd, was arrested by Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputies on the Feb. 14 evening of the incident, and charged with one count of child abuse.
Police found the mom passed out drunk inside her home next to a half-empty bottle of brandy.
When police awoke the sleeping mother, she said that her son was in the next room, and then added that she was "drunk as hell."
Police say that the mother gave the boy four shots of brandy before she passed out.
Caring neighbor Amanda Roesch also said:
"This little boy, he said all I want for my mommy is to go to rehab and to get anger management,"
"because mommy drinks to feel better 'cause she's mad."
The child’s mother posted bail and left lockup on the evening of Feb. 15.
