Dr. Mehmet Oz said eating more healthy fats will help you lose weight and revealed FBCx, a fat-burning supplement that burns 500 calories a day on the Feb. 7 episode of the Dr. Oz Show.
"Science shows us it absolutely works," said Dr. Oz. "Literally, we can eat away at the fat in our bodies."
Dr. Oz said contrary to what we've been told, eating a low-fat diet isn't best for weight loss. In fact, the best way to lose body fat is to eat more fat.
And eating more monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) causes easy, rapid weight loss without deprivation. This is because fat makes you feel full and takes longer to digest, so you don't get hungry as quickly as you do on a low-fat diet.
Dr. Oz: Eat Fat to Lose Fat
Dr. Oz used to advocate a low-fat diet, but changed his mind after talking to high-fat diet proponents Dr. David Perlmutter, author of Grain Brain, and Dr. William Davis, author of Wheat Belly (both of whom recently appeared on the Dr. Oz Show).
Dr. Oz said MUFAs flush away stored fats from your body and reduce inflammation (the No. 1 cause of chronic diseases). In addition to aiding weight loss, MUFAs prevent heart disease, diabetes and dementia, and help your skin look younger. Dr. Oz said these foods are excellent sources of MUFAs:
As a guideline, Dr. Oz suggested getting half of your daily fat calories by adding MUFAs at every meal:
- Two tablespoons of olive oil
- 10 olives
- Two tablespoons of nut butter
- One-quarter of an avocado
- Two tablespoons of nuts
- One-quarter cup of dark-chocolate chips.
Dr. Oz Discusses PUFAs and FBCx Fat-Burning Pill
Dr. Oz has never discussed polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) on his show before, but said adding them to your diet along with MUFAs is great for your health:
- Oily fish such as mackerel, sardines or salmon (3 ounces)
- Sunflower seeds (1 ounce)
- Sunflower oil (2 tablespoons)
- Sesame seeds (1 ounce)
- Pine nuts (1 shot glass).
