Appearing on Fox News' "Hannity" on Monday, Dr. Ben Carson said that Barack Obama's sequester cuts are intended to be painful in order to "prove a point," Jim Hoft reported at the Gateway Pundit.
Dr. Carson also addressed media bias, saying that eventually the so-called "mainstream media" will have to start asking "tough questions."
“It seems like what the president is doing is trying to cut in the places that hurts the most in order to prove a point," he said.
"And, I think if ever the mainstream media reaches a point that they realize that if we destroy this nation and destroy this economy, they too will be destroyed. I think at that point they will start asking the tough questions,” he added.
Hannity, however, wasn't convinced.
"Don't hold your breath, Dr. Carson," he said.
"I declared, in my own medical way, the media in this country, dead," he added. "May they rest in peace."
Dr. Carson said that if he were president, he would make cuts as well, but would spread the cuts evenly, giving department managers discretion to make the cuts, saying they "know where the fat is."
Many have said that Obama is purposefully making the sequester cuts as painful as possible in order to pressure Republicans to cave on taxes.
On Monday, the White House said it may have to cancel the 135th Annual Easter Egg Roll due to financial concerns.
"Because we distribute tickets to the Easter Egg Roll far in advance, we alerted all ticket holders that this event is subject to cancellation due to funding uncertainty, including the possibility of a government shutdown. However, we are currently proceeding as planned with the Easter Egg Roll," the White House told Politico in an email.
According to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, the event is funded by the sale of ceremonial eggs and outside donations.
"It’s a totally different budget," he said. "These are apples and oranges."
Nevertheless, the White House warned Congress that funding issues may put the annual event in jeopardy.
“If cancelled," the White House said, "the event will not be rescheduled.”
