Donald Trump set to make major announcement not to run for Governor of New York

Everything Donald Trump does is major. Soon, Trump will be making a major "non-announcement" about not running for elective office. These antics by Trump making non-announcements about non-candidacies for non-political offices keeps his name in the lights.

You can hold your breath: New York will know soon whether Donald Trump will take on Gov. Andrew Cuomo next year. "I’ll make a decision at some time pretty soon," Trump said Monday on Fox News’s "Fox & Friends."

We all know the answer: "Trump is not running for elective office . . . again."

His latest non-announcement is in not taking on Cuomo. Running against Cuomo, if Trump actually got into the race, would be a payback of sorts against New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, who alleged in a civil lawsuit that Trump University is a "fraud." Trump University was founded by Trump.

At the time of the announcement of the lawsuit, Trump falsely claimed that President Obama was behind the lawsuit for political reasons. Trump charged that Obama is in such fear of Trump, that he conspired with Schneiderman to discredit Trump.

However, the lawsuit claims something different and claims that the school would teach get rich real estate techniques, which never materialized for students. The suit claims the school defrauded consumers out of $40 million with what the lawsuit called the "sham" university. Between 2005 through 2011, Trump University operated as an unlicensed educational institute that promised to teach Donald Trump’s real estate investing techniques to consumers nationwide but instead misled consumers into paying for a series of expensive courses that did not deliver on their promises, said the press release.

"More than 5,000 people across the country who paid Donald Trump $40 million to teach them his hard sell tactics got a hard lesson in bait-and-switch," said Attorney General Schneiderman. "Mr. Trump used his celebrity status and personally appeared in commercials making false promises to convince people to spend tens of thousands of dollars they couldn't afford for lessons they never got. No one, no matter how rich or popular they are, has a right to scam hard working New Yorkers. Anyone who does should expect to be held accountable."

As payback for this civil lawsuit, Trump is announcing that he is thinking about running against Cuomo. Thinking out loud about running against someone is what "The Donald" does. Promotes himself. Then kind of shrugs and says, "But I would have won if I had wanted to run."

Seems it happens every election season. The all-to-familiar scenario: Donald Trump starts a rumor he is considering a run for office, talks about it for months and then in a final blast says I am not interested.

The business mogul has been vague about entering the race and had said recently that he wasn’t interested in a run. But after a group of state Republicans met with Trump earlier this month to encourage him to challenge Cuomo, the developer indicated he would give it some thought. The contingent traveled to Trump’s New York City office to make the request. One of those who went on the trek for what he said was a "long-shot plea," was Assemblyman David DiPietro.

Trump said on Fox that a bid for governor "was not what I had in mind," setting us up for not running. That is because Trump cannot win, reports the Washington Post. One would imagine that a man like Trump would detest losing and if that were what would happen, Trump would opt-out.

A recent Marist College poll shows Cuomo leading Trump by a stunning 70-24 margin.

"Let’s see what happens. I had something else in mind, and this was not actually something that I wanted to do," Trump said again setting us up for his non-run.

When asked whether "something else" meant 2016 presidential ambitions, Trump declined to elaborate. Betting that Trump will not run for President in 2016 is, as close to a sure-bet as there exists. Betting that Trump will pretend to be considering the race in 2016, is also another sure-bet.

Fact is that Trump cannot win a New York statewide race, or a national campaign. Trump should stick to real estate. It's something he understands. Politics, not so much. Besides, to succeed in politics you have to put yourself out there, something Trump is unwilling to subject himself to.
