Dolly Parton looks fantastic at 67, thanks to a low-carb diet. Parton is not a fan of exercise, and maintains her size-zero physique by eating small portions.
"I try to stay on my low-carb diet during the week, and then when I know I have a day off, I say, 'Make me a pan of corn bread,' " Dolly told Parade.
I tried every diet in the book. I tried some that weren't in the book. I tried eating the book. It tasted better than most of the diets.”
Parton loves to cook country food. "Chicken and dumplings [is my specialty]," she said. "It’s all country cooking. I’ll bring my grits when I travel because I get so hungry on the road."
When I’m home, I spend Sunday with my husband. If we’re not cooking, we travel around in our camper, stop at fast-food restaurants, and picnic. We love that stuff that will harden your arteries in a hurry."
Despite widespread speculation about her 40-DD curves (including rumors that she underwent weight-loss surgery and had cancer), Dolly doesn't follow starvation diets or work out rigorously.
I’m up [a few pounds] and I’m down, but I don’t have any tips for anybody. It’s a b*tch any way you look at it: You either starve or you get fat. I’m very short, so I just have to watch my weight because I have a big appetite. You need a good push-up bra – and wear clothes that make you look good."
While Parton isn't fussy about diet or exercise, she openly admits to having had plastic surgery, including breast implants, liposuction, eye surgery, a chin job, as well as Botox and other fillers to achieve her wrinkle-free complexion.
"People say I look so happy and I say, 'Well, that’s Botox!' she said. "I joke that if I see something sagging, dragging, or bagging, I'm gonna get it sucked, tucked, or plucked."
Parton's happy-go-lucky personality belies the tragedies she has weathered, including her impoverished childhood alongside 11 siblings and the death of her parents in 2000 and 2003.
"Folks think with sunny people that you’re always happy. I’m not," she said. "Songwriters have to be in touch with their emotions. You can’t live on the surface because you can’t harden your heart."
Meanwhile, Parton has defended her goddaughter Miley Cyrus' exhibitionist behavior, attributing it to her youthful desire to express herself.
I’ve loved Miley through the years and watched her grow up. It’s not easy being young. It’s hard to know what to do. You’ve almost got to sacrifice your damn soul just to get anything done.”
