Dog treats recalled nationwide due to possible salmonella

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of dog treats on Feb. 19. Kasel Associated Industries voluntarily recalled all products made from April 20, 2012 to Sept. 19, 2012 due to possible salmonella contamination.

The Denver, Colo. –based company is recalling all Boots & Barkley, BIXBI, Nature’s Deli, Colorado Naturals, Petco, and Best Bully dog treat items.

Consumers are urged to wash their hands thoroughly after handling the affected canine treats. People can spread the pet treats contaminated with salmonella if the hands and surfaces are not cleaned properly.

It is important to monitor pets that may have been in contact with the affected product.

Pets infected with salmonella may be lethargic with diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Also, some may have decreased appetite. Pets can also be carriers and infect other animals and humans with the pathogen.

No illnesses or complaints have been reported to date.

The product list affected in this recall can be viewed at the FDA website.

Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products listed in the recall may return them back to the place of purchase for a full refund. Any questions or concerns may be directed to Kasel Associated Industries directly at 800-218-4417.
