Good-bye is never easy, especially if it is a final good-bye...
According to Saturday's publication of The Blaze, late last week, a 10-year-old dog named "Rusty," was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to see his guardian, Mike Petrosino, who has terminal cancer, one last time.
For the majority of Rusty's life, Petrosino has been battling a rare cancer known as Ewings Sarcoma.
Though Petrosino was initially only given a slight chance of survival past the first year of his diagnosis, which was back in 2006, he has battled through and survived much longer than his doctors predicted.
Sadly, the fight has neared its end and his physicians have told his family that there is nothing more that they can do.
Petrosino's brother, John, captured Rusty's final visit with his ailing guardian; he described the scene as:
“...by far one of the most touching moments of my life,
Rusty seemed to grasp the gravity of the moment as well; John told The Blaze that the dog was "very emotional," during the visit.
The poignant photo went viral via Reddit after one of Mike Petrosino's friends shared the emotional image.
Mike's family has established an online website for donations to help defray the medical bills.
