During any conversation, it is wise to talk less and listen more to the person that you are conversing with. Keep your dialogue short and sweet, generally to a point where you are not blabbering.
Proverbs 10:19 states, “When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.”
When you restrain your lips from doing too much talking, you will be considered intelligent, but in the multitude of your words, your actual cleverness will be on display. Talking too much does more bad than it does good. Therefore, it is in your best interest to avoid excessive talking, by listening more and restraining your lips from causing you harm.
But disciplined listening isn’t easily achieved without hard work and dedication. You have to continuously practice listening to others before you can develop the habit of listening effectively. Listening takes patience, and only through patience can you reap what you have sowed, physically, mentally, or spiritually.
