The water is one of the most universal ways to bring people together to practice aquatic conservation together.
Green Divers are taking the marine world by storm. The Green Diver Initiative is an online community empowered to make a difference whether through activities such as environmental activists or walking the white sand beaches to make sure they stay as beautiful as nature intended them to be. Behind this initiative are strong believers in a mission statement meant to send a powerful message: "To promote and encourage through purposeful activity the education of the general public to safely preserve and conserve the quality of our underwater environment."
The National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI Worldwide) and Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) have worked tirelessly to bring the Green Diver P.A.C.T. to the dive community. They spread the word on a daily basis in addition to dive training from skin diver through Instructor Course Director as well as specialty courses such as nitrox and technical diving.
You have to be quite an extraordinary person to follow the dream for a better tomorrow on land and in the sea and become a Green Diver. It all comes effortlessly if you believe in what you do. Here are the provisions of the P.A.C.T.:
Promote environmental awareness and help others see how aquatic ecosystems interrelate and how human actions can disrupt or preserve them.
Practice and foster positive impact diving behavior and minimal impact water skills.
Model my own behavior to be true to this pledge, including proper disposal of refuse and not taking souvenirs or molesting aquatic life.
Help others fine-tune their water skills to minimize damage to aquatic life.
Promote aquatic conservation activities and continue my education through participation in such programs.
Look for opportunities to do little things that benefit the aquatic environment and share them with my fellow Green Divers so that together we can have a greater positive impact.
Use my Green Diver log to keep track of the refuse that I remove from aquatic environments.
Encourage others to become members of the Green Diver Initiative and strive to convince everyone to adopt the principles of green diving.
Choose service providers who participate in the Green Diver Initiative and display the Green Diver Initiative logo.
There is something for everyone in animal conservation, beach conservation, ocean conservation and reef conservation. Some of the great supporters are California Ships to Reefs, Coral Reef Alliance, Reef Relief, Greenpeace, Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation, The Ocean Project, Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association and Save Our Seas.
Become a Green Diver today and get involved if even in a small way because tiny efforts most certainly lead up to large scale progress.
