South Floridian water enthusiasts will have the opportunity to come out on September 21 and 22, 2013, and join in Force-E's Fin-a-thon.
Project Aware brings awareness of shark conservation into a much brighter light. Recently, the organization has been successful in their efforts with shark petitions and campaigns to try and end shark finning. They were also at the forefront this year to help push CITES to make better laws for the trade of Hammerhead, Oceanic White Tip, Porbeagle, sharks and manta rays globally.
You can be part of this massive movement by joining Force-E on September 21st at 8:00 a.m. in Palm Beach at the dock and dive Shark Canyon and Juno Ledge. If you miss that dive or are eager to do another dive, the boat leaves the dock at 10:00 a.m. in Jupiter on September 22nd and dives MG111 and Tunnels Reef. You can sign up online on the Force-E website. The cost is $75 per dive which includes a $10 donation to Project Aware from each diver that has signed up. If you feel strongly about helping the cause, make a donation to http://finathon.org/foreceedivers.
Project Aware is also making waves with their 'Dive Against Debris' campaign during the month of September. Read their latest release at http://www.projectaware.org/stop-ocean’s-silent-killer and spread the word across your dive community in order to make a difference. You can tweet on your social media platform to get more of your friends involved in the campaign as well.
All the tools and resources to participate in the citizen science program 'Dive Against Debris' year round are available to download from the website in the Dive Against Debris Action Kit. From spreading the word on social media to making a donation, joining an action to organizing an event, divers and non-divers alike can support the fight against marine debris. Your help with spreading the word is critical to the success of this campaign as the more people get involved the better for our ocean.
