History of Diving Museum

By now, the word has spread and dive enthusiasts have made their way down to the Florida Keys to pay a visit to one of the most educational and enlightening attractions in all of South Florida.

The History of Diving Museum continues to draw curious divers, snorkelers, locals and tourists who want to feed their desire for education as they take in the history of diving and all the wonders of the ocean.

For the next few days, if you just happen to be close to Mile Marker 83 near Islamorada in the Florida Keys, this will be your opportunity to take an adventure into the mysterious deep. On the third Wednesday of every month, the doors of the History of Diving Museum continue to stay open to welcome water enthusiasts with a penchant for absorbing the history of diving. Each month there is a different topic and it all begins at 7:00 p.m. at 82990 Overseas Highway.

Tomorrow is the big evening, Wednesday, August 20, 2014, as visitors will get to dive into the story behind 'Journey To The Bottom Of The Sea' with the History Of Diving Museum co-founder, Dr. Sally Bauer. Sally has been instrumental in making this museum a dive legacy as she and her late husband went from being doctors to expert divers and opening the museum with many dive artifacts. She is also a distinguished member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame. Sally will take her audience back to 1960 to take a chilling look at the two men who sealed themselves in a sphere and plunged down seven miles to the very bottom of the Mariana Trench, deep, dark and ominous. Now, learn all about the adventure.

Spend a few more days in the Florida Keys, diving or snorkeling or kayaking or jet skiing or all of these water sports. Get ready for Saturday, August 23, 2014, as the History of Diving Museum hosts a wine and cheese reception right within the walls of the museum. As you sip and socialize, watch spectacular footage from the Abyss. There will be a silent auction as well as raffle prizes. Tickets are just $10 -- $5 for Museum members! Tickets are available now at the Museum store or online -- click here for adult tickets or here for member tickets. Tickets purchased online can be picked up at the Museum Store.

On Sunday, August 24, 2014, the afternoon will be devoted to the kids. Between noon and 3:00 p.m., there will be free deep sea coloring where the kids can let their imaginations run wild and design scuba suits or their very own deep diving suits. Maybe they even may color some creatures of the ocean deep.

This exciting event is all part of the 'Dive Into History' event series. Remember that all funds raised from the sale of the tickets will go to benefit educational outreach programs. Set up your membership while you are there so you can learn about these neat events before anyone else and receive preferred seating at each monthly seminar. Before you head out, check out the Museum gift shop with all kinds of goodies that will serve as a constant reminder of the good times you had at the History of Diving Museum.
