Bungie has built a legacy with the Halo franchise that continues on even after the studio has moved on to Destiny for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox 720. The studio hinted Friday that those that played its Halo games may be rewarded in Destiny even if they pick the MMO-ish shooter up on a Playstation console.
The following question was sent as question to Bungie as part of their mail sack.
I want to buy the PS4 now that Bungie makes games for PlayStation. But I am worried that it will effectively mean I am starting with a blank slate. How will this affect everything I have achieved with Halo?
Bungie responded with this statement.
With the rebuild of Bungie.net, we’ve sort of wiped that slate clean for you. Destiny (and the online experiences that will support it) will provide brand new opportunities for you to distinguish yourself as a rare and unique snowflake who kicks ass in a living world. The great feats you achieved in Halo may yet impact your legacy as a player of Bungie games. We still have a database with billions of rows of player data, and we’re not afraid to use it.
So it sounds like there's a possibility that those that played Bungie produced Halo games on the Xbox 360 and possibly the original Xbox will receive some kind of in-game reward in Destiny whether they play the title on either Playstation or Xbox consoles. It is doubtful that these will be something that will affect gameplay. Instead, it is likely to be something cosmetic like an emblem, badge, or possibly a unique wearable item for the Destiny characters players create.
Destiny is expected on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox 720 some time in 2014.
