Despite media reports, killers turned away from Bundy ranch say eyewitnesses

Despite media accounts claiming a tie-in and a video showing alleged Las Vegas killer Jerad Miller talking to NBC’s News4 Reno about the Bundy ranch standoff, he was never admitted to ranch property, Mike Vanderboegh reported Monday on the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog. That confirms a development first published earlier in the afternoon at Gun Rights Examiner, which first reported a possible connection between Miller and his wife and a couple turned away by Ranch supporters after he disclosed he was a felon who wanted to join them.

“Just got off the phone with Jerry Delemus, the head of the outer security operation the day that these folks were turned away,” Vanderboegh reported. “These people looked to me like the couple we turned away and Jerry confirmed it. He is positive on the ID.

‘[A]lthough they ... had been interviewed by the media, the interview was done on the property (not owned by the Bundys) below the outer security area where we were a couple of days later when they ventured up to volunteer,” Vanderboegh explained. “The important thing, since the media are already tarring the Bundys with the ‘association’ is, the two of them never got on the Bundy property (not even the outer security camp was on Bundy property); to my knowledge they never met the Bundys; on my recommendation, they were turned away by both Jerry & Stewart.

“If the media wishes to make the ‘Bundy connection’ with that set of facts, they are simply parroting a regime narrative absent reality,” Vanderboegh concluded.

This was further confirmed in a telephone call while this report was being compiled in which Vanderboegh told Gun Rights Examiner he also validated Delemus' recollection with a member of Oath Keepers who was present when the couple were turned away.

This development underscores the importance of realizing that as stories like this with important implications for political considerations are developing, it is important to keep from leaping to unfounded conclusions until facts become known. It will be interesting to see if any “establishment media” outlets are interested in verifying this information for themselves and informing their readers and viewers that all is not as early reports have led them to believe, particularly since media accounts on the current Google news feed overwhelmingly are pushing an affiliation of the killers with the Bundy situation.

UPDATE: While Obama administration Interior Secretary Sally Jewell is trying mightily to tie Miller in with the Bundys, The Washington Post reports:

The Millers went to Bundy’s ranch, about 80 miles outside of Las Vegas, in April, they said on social media sites. But the militiamen shunned the couple because Jerad Miller had prior felony convictions in Washington State.
