The Klamath Falls OR based Dr. Neil M. Walle, at Klamath Falls Dental Specialists, shares a new research study proving stress is connected to gum disease, with an in office patient education program.

In the recent study, published in the journal Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences concluded that chronic stress increases inflammation in the body. Gum disease – like every other type of infection – causes inflammation in the body. The researchers discovered that chronic stress alters gene activity in immune cells before they enter the bloodstream so they are prepared to fight trauma or infection, even in cases where no trauma or infection exists to fight. This leads to increased inflammation in the body ultimately causing gum disease.

Dr. Neil Walle, is making an effort to educate patients about the benefits of regular oral health care and eliminating stress.
