Democrat: Bring back the draft, include women (Photos)

If passed, women could involuntarily be assigned to the infantry...

A leading Democratic congressman is calling for the reinstitution of the military draft, but this time to include women who were previously excluded, as reported by Breitbart.com on Feb. 16, 2013.

Last Friday, Representative Charles Rangel (D-NY) brought forward to Congress the “The National Universal Service Act” (H.R. 747), and “The All American Selective Service Act” (H.R. 748), which would require all Americans, both men and women between 18 and 25 to register for Selective Service.

If passed, women would now be able to be drafted directly into the various combat arms billets in the military, such as front line infantry duty.

As the New York Democrat stated in a press release:

"Now that women can serve in combat they should register for the Selective Service alongside their male counterparts.

Reinstating the draft and requiring women to register for the Selective Service would compel the American public to have a stake in the wars we fight as a nation.

We must question why and how we go to war, and who decides to send our men and women into harm's way."

As Rangel was also quoted by the New York Daily News:

"Take my word for it, if every time a president was about to put our kids in harm's way, we we're thinking about our kids and grandkids, it just wouldn't happen."

Despite the reassurances from Rangel that simply because women will be allowed into combat arms, America's leaders would think twice about committing America's youth to combat, the one leader that negates Rangel's argument is his own Party's leader -- Barack Obama.

During a recent interview on CBS, Obama stated he wouldn't have any "hesitation" ordering women directly into combat.
