Demi Lovato says yes to workouts ahead of world tour, no to plastic surgery

Demi Lovato and her young Hollywood peers aren't obsessed with plastic surgery, she told Cover Media Feb. 3.

"None of my friends have ever gotten plastic surgery," said Lovato, who's friends with Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus. "I think the whole plastic thing comes from an older generation. Like, when you get older you start doing that."

Demi has been outspoken about the need for young women to embrace themselves no matter what their size or weight. She said you don't have to get plastic surgery to be a fake person, and those are the people you have to be watch out for.

"People still have fake personalities at my age, and it’s about finding who are good influences on you and who are real friends," she said.

Demi has been doing well since going to rehab in 2010 to treat her drug and alcohol addiction, anorexia and bulimia. She has been managing her bipolar disorder and depression with medication and therapy, and is excited to launch her "Neon Lights" world tour next month. Lovato said prepping for a tour requires intense workouts.

Physically, you definitely have to prepare yourself. You can’t just up and go on tour. You have to go into rehearsals and you have to get your stamina up. You have to work out a little bit. Rehearsals are pretty intense, so you are working from probably 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You are working long hours, so you are getting in shape by doing that."

Things are definitely looking up for Demi, who went through some dark, difficult times during her years of cocaine and alcohol abuse. Looking back, she's glad she went public with her problems because her experiences may be able to help others.

"It’s overwhelming because sometimes I am still looking for the answers too," she said. "So I guess I put a little pressure on myself by talking about these issues. But at the same time, someone had to.

"There’s nobody out there that’s really talking about these issues, and I’d rather have pressure put on myself than have girls around the world be suffering in silence. I’m still figuring it out day by day. It’s still a journey, and I’m still working on myself."

Demi detailed her harrowing battles with drug addiction, anorexia and bulimia in her bestselling book, Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year.
