Just weeks after a shooting at a Washinton, D.C. naval yard, the area was once again the site of another incident. This time, the incident was a car chase from the White House to the Capitol.
By the time it was over, a Connecticut dental hygienist was dead, fatally shot by police. The woman, Miriam Carey, apparently had a long history of mental illness.
It has been said that Carey believed President Barack Obama was stalking her, on Thursday of last week when she allegedly tried to drive into the White House. Although she was never arrested or charged with a crime, her actions set off a deadly car chase and panic in the city.
All the while, her young daughter was in the back of the car. Her daughter was later found safe.
Police later fatally shot Carey, after she got out of her car.
It is unclear exactly what set off this bizarre case, or why Carey was so far from from her Connecticut home- in the middle of a government shutdown, no less. There is also much debate now among Americans about whether or not police should have fired those fatal shots and whether or not the now-deceased woman was dangerous.
Sadly, we may never know. Still, the fact remains that a young girl will now be growing up without a mother.
