In another collaboration between chashama and +aRt, “De-Coherent Histories”, the second of a 2-part installation, is now on view through November 6.
“De-Coherent Histories” is a multi-media show created by New York artists Peter Gregorio and Austin Shull. A combination of photography, video, sculpture and painting will be displayed in the 1800 square foot donated retail space.
Artist Gregorio describes it as an exhibition that “merges historical and futurist ideas to confront the viewer in the present, leaving mysterious questions unanswered and perpetuated.”
Both artists are fairly new to the art scene, receiving their MFAs from the School of Visual Arts in 2007. They have both exhibited their works nationally and internationally. Gregorio is Editor-in-Chief of VECTOR artist’s journal, and Shull’s work was recently highlighted in the 2009 Whitney Biennial.
“De-Coherent Histories” follows Jason Covert’s “CARNIVORA”, the successful first showing of the series. Chashama supports artists and the New York community by “transforming temporarily vacant properties into spaces where art can flourish.” +aRt is a newly constructed 13-story building, developed in part by Ekstein Development, that will feature artistically-curated living spaces. Because of the success of the first installment, states Erik Ekstein, word has gotten out about Chelsea’s newest high-rise and several prospective buyers have shown interest in the building.
Stop by “De-Coherent Histories” today! The show is open Tuesday through Saturday, 12 – 6pm, and is located at 540 West 28 Street.
