“You shall be My people, and I will be your God.” – Jeremiah 30:22
Who are you being to someone else, my brother? Who are you looking for that somebody to be for you, my sister? If you are looking for that “special someone” to be only what God can be for you, then all you have is a frustrating and empty relationship.
When we look to others to fulfill in us only what God can, it is unfair to both them and you. You are placing an unreachable expectation on the other person to be God for you. Only God can be God. I tell the young men and women who come to me, wanting to find their mate, to date God first; otherwise, like that 1980s Johnny Lee song sings, you are just looking for love in all the wrong places. A relationship should be seasoning on an already-seasoned plate; and not the seasoning itself trying to spice up an empty dish.
Psalm 34:8 invites us to taste and see that the Lord is good! And Luke 10:27 woos us as it gestures to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind.” Who are you loving with all your being, family? If it’s not God, then it’s not good; because then you have replaced Him as your one and only true source.
Let God pick your spouse; because it will be the right person, who God tailor-made just for you. Otherwise, you are with a person who isn’t for you; and like trying to put a square peg in a round hole, and as much as you try and want it to fit, it won’t fit because it just doesn’t work.
Relationships born of the flesh never work—I know, as I have been there too many times, and never going back there again. Fleshly relationships are co-dependent, shallow, and unstable affairs which serve no other purpose than to cater to the ebb and flow of the flesh. We call these soul ties, because they will tie you up, and hem you in. They will keep you bound.
However, when you connect in the spirit first, and build on what God has established for you and your mate in the spirit, then you have a stable, lasting, fruitful, and amazing kingdom relationship! God is looking to make kingdom couples, not carnal couples.
Start dating God, my brother. Get intimate with Him, my sister. When you get intimate with God, and allow Him to be your everything, then you have a match made in heaven.
Father, thank You for loving us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). We love You because You first loved us (1 John 4:19). Help us, Holy Father, to love You with all that we are. Help us to focus on building our relationship with You. Bring us to that level of intimacy that You desire for us. In Jesus Name, we thank You that You are our More-than-Enough, and we are already content and fulfilled to overflowing because of Who You are in us and who we are in You. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to start dating God. Choose to spend time with Him each and every day, cultivating and nurturing your relationship with your Creator. Make up your mind that God is going to be the center of the center of your heart, because you are His. And continue to fight the good fight of allowing God to be your everything; for God, your Finer Things in Life, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
