- CARRIE GETS HER FIRST PAIR OF MANOLOS—AND HER FIRST COSMO. Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb) just ditched her law firm internship for one at Interview Magazine instead, and already she’ll be rolling in the perks in The Carrie Diaries’ next new episode “Hush, Hush.” Another stroke of insanely good luck gives Carrie a chance to model a brand new pair of Manolo Blahnik pumps and because she helped in a pinch, Larissa (Freema Agyeman) lets her keep them. Although Carrie has never heard of the designer before, lets hope she has the good sense not to drop these the way of the Dior scarf! Then later in the city, she hits a new club, meets a new guy, and he introduces her to what she thinks will become “her drink.” But what's most interesting about this episode is the misleading title. You would have thought that last week's "Caught" would be when Carrie's double life would be exposed, but... let's just say she's going to have some 'splaining to do to one very important person in her life after "Hush, Hush!"
- DEMONS AND SECRETS FROM OWEN'S PAST TO SURFACE IN NIKITA. In "With Fire," the next all-new Nikita episode, Owen (Devon Sawa) comes face-to-face with Ari (Peter Outerbridge). In fact, Ari is captured by Division and left for Nikita (Maggie Q), Michael (Shane West) and Owen to interrogate-- though Ari claims that was all part of his plan. But when he's tied to a chair, a lot of things Owen had previously pushed out his mind resurface, including some of the things with Amanda (Melinda Clarke), per Sawa himself. Once the memory floodgates are open, so to speak, he will really go after Ari for more answers. Sawa shared with us that he thinks Owen thinks he is ready to take on Amanda, but what he remembers may set him back a bit.
- MARK-PAUL GOSSELAAR RETURNS TO HAPPY ENDINGS. When LA TV Insider Examiner caught up with Happy Endings EP Jonathan Groff at the ABC TCA party in January, he let us know that he was working on a deal to have Mark-Paul Gosselaar return as Chase, Max’s (Adam Pally) one-time roommate in this third season. Today we have the scoop that the deal is signed, and Chase will return later in the season (episode 3.20, "Unsabotagable"), back to get his revenge as he promised Max he would. Only there’s a twist: Max’ life is so messed up as it is, Chase may just decide revenge is too cruel, Pally previewed. Since ABC has been airing episodes out of order this season, we don't have an airdate for Gosselaar's return just yet, but the show itself comes back from hiatus on March 29th.
- PIERS MORGAN PROVES TO BE A REAL HOUSEWIFE ON CELEBRITY APPRENTICE. Being a previous winner of an installment of The Celebrity Apprentice, Donald Trump invited Piers Morgan back for the All-Stars season to sit next to him in the boardroom and judge the tasks (and he routinely makes fun of Bret Michaels for choosing to compete again instead of doing the same). Morgan certainly lets the power go to his head immediately in the premiere episode when he tries to stir the drama pot with Claudia Jordan, asking her why Omarosa’s photo is more prominent than her own during the task. Clearly Morgan and Omarosa’s feud from their own season has been carried over here, and he has no problem admitting his disgust and hatred, which makes him sound like he’s pleading a case to star on a Bravo reality show instead. While we applaud his candor, we have to wonder how Trump—or the show itself—can justify keeping someone with such a clear bias in a judging position. Aren’t we still supposed to pretend reality shows are actually real?
- SWITCHED AT BIRTH DOES A SILENT SHUT IN BUT MODERN DAY PROBLEMS ABOUND. In "Uprising," the all-ASL episode of Switched at Birth, the Carlton kids decide to "Take Back" their school after learning of its closure for the following year. Using the play as a distraction, they plan an elaborate shut-in, inspired by similar acts on the Gallaudet campus in 1988. But this is 2013, and the protest is equally more supported and more complicated by social media. Though photos and Tweets come in from all over the country to stand in solidarity with Carlton, so do a few photos and Tweets go out from the protest that are off-message, and potentially detrimental to the cause, per Daphne (Katie Leclerc), who led the charge for this protest and stands strong as leader throughout. All eyes are on Carlton now, and she wants to present a message of seriousness and unity, but some consider that dictatorship, and others, namely Bay (Vanessa Marano) worry that she's making the greater cause more important than the people in her life. As one of the only hearing kids, Bay is initially kept out of the secret of the protest but ends up playing a very important part through her art. Will she feel used in the end, if the school stays open and deaf and she ultimately can't stay, even when those she fought alongside can? Additionally, the episode is not completely silent. There is some dialogue in the opening scene, and one line to close the show with some ambient sound. But more importantly, music filters in and out, as usual, throughout. It's not source sound, but it's still there nonetheless, so I suggest muting the television to get the full experience. There is a poignant line about the hearing community needing to walk in the deaf community's shoes in order to really understand, and this is a small but still perfect way to start.
