‘Dancing with the Stars’: Spotlight on Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd

Sean Lowe found love on “The Bachelor,” and now he's hoping to find the same level of success on “Dancing with the Stars.” On March 12, “Good Morning America” revealed that Sean would compete on season 16 with his pro partner, Peta Murgatroyd. On Tuesday, Lowe tweeted, “No more secrets. That includes dancing.” On Monday’s finale of “The Bachelor,” Sean and Catherine Giudici not only got engaged, but they also they announced that they’re planning a TV wedding that will happen in the near future. So, from “The Bachelor” to “DWTS,” everything is coming up roses for Sean Lowe.

On the Emily Maynard season of “The Bachelorette,” Sean went home brokenhearted when she chose Arie Luyendyk and Jef Holm as her last two suitors. ABC then tapped Lowe as the new Bachelor and his season ended beautifully on March 11. He dropped down to one knee and proposed to Catherine Giudici, who gleefully accepted. The two are now “out and about” and enjoying their time together. They even updated their Twitter pages with a photo of themselves and their dogs.

Before “The Bachelorette” and “The Bahelor,” Sean was a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He started his career in finance, and then followed his father’s footsteps in insurance before committing to his new enterprise, owning and running an upscale, custom furniture business. In his spare time, Sean models for fitness magazines.

Dance professional Peta Murgatroyd is a ralative newcomer to “Dancing with the Stars,” but she isn’t a newcomer to the world of dance. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, she studied classical ballet from the age of four and trained for twelve years under former principal dancer of the Kirov Ballet, Madame Lubov Nikonorenko.

Peta quickly became a rising star and was named the Australian State Champion within three months of beginning ballroom training. She competed around the world, placing second in the Great World City Championships, and was a semi-finalist in the Lion City Championships in Singapore and a finalist in the Australian Open Championships.

In 2004, Peta was chosen to be a cast member of “Burn The Floor,” which sold more than four million tickets in over 30 countries and 160 cities worldwide. She toured the world with the production for six years. “Burn The Floor” then landed on Broadway in August 2009, where Peta was the lead female dancer.

After achieving her lifelong goal of being on Broadway, Peta Murgatroyd ended her run with the production in January 2010 to pursue a career in film and television in Los Angeles. She landed on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2011. Although she and partner Ron Artest were eliminated first in season 13, Peta returned in season 14 with a vengeance and won the coveted mirror ball trophy with partner Donald Driver. During the all-star season in 2012, she competed with Gilles Marini and the two finished in 6th place.

Like Sean, Peta is excited about the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.” On March 12, she tweeted, “So, it’s official everyone. Sean Lowe and I will be dancing into your living rooms.”

Dancing with the Stars” premieres at 8 p.m. EST on Monday, March 18 on ABC. The first results show elimination airs at 9 p.m. on March 26. During last season's final, Melissa Rycroft defeated fellow all-stars Shawn Johnson and Kelly Monaco to win the mirror ball trophy.
