"Dancing with the Stars" season 17 will air only one night a week instead of the usual two that it's shown for years. On Aug. 15, Yahoo TV broke down how the show's format will run in a two-hour span instead of three over the course of Monday and Tuesday nights.
This new format is believed to help bring in more viewers. Having the competition and elimination segment combined into one episode will be far smoother for fans to keep up with who record "Dancing with the Stars" on their DVRs and such.
Derek Hough said the show will be "jam-packed." He made a great point that viewers will love to know.
"There won't be much filler or vamping to get to a commercial break to make sure we fill two hours. It will be back-to-back action," Hough said.

Host Tom Bergeron agreed that the one-episode per week format will wipe out the fillers that came with a separate results night. He said it'll make the series a "much more compelling two hours. It's great one-stop shopping." Bergeron added that "the judges' votes from that night will still count. So the viewer votes from the previous week carry over and are coupled with the judges' votes from that night. So they're still dancing for their lives there."
Mark Ballas is relieved to see the results episode of "Dancing with the Stars" be eliminated. He said he's never been a fan of that.
"I watch 'The Voice' for my viewing pleasure, but sometimes I don't watch the results show," Ballas said. "Why do you want to watch to see who gets kicked off, you know what I mean?"
Ballas, like Hough, said the show will be more exciting in that "you get all the action in the same day." This should keep people more interested and maintain excellent ratings.
"Dancing with the Stars" season 17 will likely be less stress on the celebrity contestants as well. They had to perform live two nights in a row, even though the judging was Monday nights. They had to rehearse and prepare for another appearance on the Tuesday night eliminations episode.
The official cast of "Dancing with the Stars" season 17 will be announced on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Wed., Sept. 4.
