A Fla. father, Bryan Adams, from Okeechobee County, is facing charges of child abuse, resisting arrest, and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, after Okeechobee County Sheriff's deputies caught up with him in the Fla. woods last week where Adams was determined to punish his 11-year-old son - who the father was convinced was possessed by a demon.
According to an Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office report shared by WPBF on Jan. 23, Adams reportedly said to his son, “You are the demon and you know what I must do with you."
Responding to a complaint from Adams’ estranged wife, police were able to find Adams and his son before any serious damage was done to the child. When deputies arrived on the scene, they said that the 11-year-old was dressed only in pajamas and a T-shirt.
When deputies tried to arrest Adams, he resisted and fought with them, running deeper into the woods and hiding in the brush, the report stated.
The Fla. dad wanted no part of the impending arrest. In their effort to take Adams into custody, deputies resorted to using a Taser and a K-9 officer.
The deputies’ report stated that Adams “showed violent behavior, no compliance or showing of pain and abnormal strength."
Investigators said his estranged wife told them she had to leave him because of his serious drug abuse and addiction to crystal methamphetamine.
The police report also stated that Adams appeared at the workplace of his estranged wife prior to the incident in the woods. Adams wanted the keys to his wife’s car. He also told her “he wanted to take possession of the children.”
The wife told deputies that Adams said that he was seeing demons.
While hospitalized, Adams told deputies that he had taken some meth just before his arrest.
The 11-year-old son “suffered a minor injury to his heel but was otherwise OK.”
