This Nicaraguan puro is a 7 x 54 Torpedo Box Press using a dark Habano Wrapper.
Initially, there will only be 500 boxes of this vitola with a bigger run and more sizes at a later date. All boxes will be signed by Miguel Cuenca.
The Habano wrapper is a deep, rich brown that feels very smooth and soft like a pair of leather kid gloves. There are a few noticeable veins but they do not detract from the look and feel of the cigar. Underneath the wrapper, the cigar is firm to the touch.
The wrapper smelled of cedar and tobacco while the foot had an earthy aroma along with faint raisin notes.
After clipping the Torpedo cap, the cigar had a firm pre-light draw with more of the sweet raisin flavor.
The cigar starts off smooth on the palate but, has a strong spice sensation and a cedar flavor on the exhale.
As the smoke progressed, I picked up on additional notes of cedar, tobacco and a faint sweetness. At around the halfway point, the cigar developed a strong, lingering finish that coated my palate.
The cigar finishes strong, with plenty of great flavors and full body. I would consider the Cuenca 5 Anniversary to be medium to full strength as well.
Construction characteristics of the Cuenca 5 Anniversary include a firm, tight gray ash that lasted a good 2 ½ inches before it dropped, an even burn and a good amount of smoke volume.
The Cuenca 5 Anniversary was one of the more enjoyable smokes I have had in awhile. The great flavors, excellent construction and extraordinary feel all combine to make this a cigar that I can fully recommend for you to try. I would definitely pick this cigar up again and smoke with pleasure.
There are plans to have the Cuenca 5 Anniversary cigar initially available in 20 different cigar stores in the Continental U.S. and Europe. By mid 2013, the whole line will be available in 50 U.S. and European stores.
The Cuenca 5 Anniversary is available right now at:
