A crocodile attack in Australia resulted in the death of the victim. Sean Cole, 26, of Darwin, Australia, was found nearby where he was last seen in the mouth of a saltwater crocodile in the Mary River. According to United Press International on Aug. 26, 2013, Cole was celebrating at a birthday party with friends when he decided to go swimming.
The area where Cole and his friends were celebrating has the highest density of saltwater crocodiles in the world, though Cole's is the first known fatality on the Mary River.
A 16-foot Crocodile attacked Cole while he was swimming in the river with a friend and carried him away in its jaws. so far four crocodiles have been shot by park rangers matching the description of the one that got Cole. Autopsies will be performed to determine which croc killed the man.
The crocodile attack was perpetrated by a 16 footer, which sounds huge, but it could have been much worse. The saltwater crocodile is the largest living reptile and can grow to a monstrous 23-feet in length. It was most likely an aggressive male, as females do not grow larger than 10 feet in length. This is also the most dangerous species of crocodile to humans, although attacks and deaths are rare.
