The story of a couple’s second lottery win is trending on the Internet Sunday.
AZCentral.com reported Saturday that a retired couple from Tempe, Arizona, won their second huge lottery jackpot in 17 years.
The very lucky winners are Kerry and Diane Carmichael. They came forward to claim the $1 million second-place Powerball prize from Wednesday’s drawing
The Carmichaels last big prize was for more than twice as much, $2.5 million. That prize was for “The Pick” game in 1995.
The couple told KPHO-TV that they are collecting a $125,000 annuity from that 1995 win. But that annuity will expire at the end of next year.
Arizona lottery officials praised the couple’s second lottery win.
“This is an incredible win for the Arizona Lottery, especially since the ticket was purchased at our office by a previous Lottery winner,” said Karen Bach, director of budget, products, and communications for the Arizona Lottery. “Arizona has seen a substantial increase in the number of new millionaires statewide since $2 Powerball launched and we only expect that trend to continue.”
They said they will consult a financial advisor and “resist the urge to splurge.”
Of course, everyone wants to know what their secret is? The couple says they have no secret for their second lottery win. They just play often and they are very, very lucky.
For the record, the couple's second very lucky winning Powerball numbers were: 6 – 10 – 23 – 41 – 45 – PB 1.
And the couple says their luck is not done yet.
"Good things come in threes. Two down, one to go," Diane Carmichael told Arizona Lottery officials.
