Monarcas Morelia and Alebrijes de Oaxaca advanced to the semifinals of the Copa MX on Tuesday after their victories in the competition. Morelia coach Carlos Bustos sent out his starting XI giving the tournament its due respect. Despite the starting players, Monarcas suffered to defeat a Leon FC that consisted of U-20 players. In the end Morelia defeated the panzas verdes 2-0.
The scoreboard should have had a larger margin considering which players were on the pitch. But the visiting squad had youth on their side and fought to the very end.
Colombian Aldo Leao scored the first goal in the 50th minute. He received a pass and with no marker, he spun and fired the ball past goalkeeper Christian Martinez for the 1-0.
Morelia never had good control of the game as the younger Leon players kept the home squad at bay brushing off shot after shot. However, their battle came to an end in the 85th minute when Enrique Perez entered the area unopposed on a corner kick and headed the ball past the keeper for the final 2-0.
The monarchy will now wait to see who advances in the “clasico del norte” between CF Monterrey and Tigres UANL.
