Controversial claims made in the Holy Bible

It is difficult to know which avenue is most important when effort is made to convince folks of the inerrancy of the Bible, or the existence of God, the age of the earth, creation or evolution, and on and on. However, since Christianity is solely based upon information from the Bible we shall again, attempt to show some of the reasons that it should be accepted to be what it claims to be. Many accept it without knowing its contents. This is known as blind faith and there are numerous reasons that it cannot be acceptable in the sight of God. My favorite phrase is: "No one can obey God if they don't know what He says." That is so true it should behoove everyone to study diligently.

But a very large majority of those who reject it, do so blindly because they don't want to know what it says. It cramps their lifestyle. They are afraid to study it for fear they will find themselves condemned by it. But, it is far better to make such an enormous decision based on knowledge than on ignorance and wishful thinking. So let us see some of the things claimed by the Bible and, as best we can, prove its claims t o be true.

(1) The Bible claims to be the infallible revelation of God's will. Now, that is saying a lot. Here is where Paul, inspired of God, confirms that claim in his letter to young Timothy, an evangelist in the church of our Lord.

"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." (2 Timothy 3:15-17 KJV)

Now the meaning of the term "inspiration" here is not as one might regard our use of it, such as was Francis Scott Key in 1814 when he witnessed the bombardment by British Royal Navy warships in the Chesapeake Bay on Fort McHenry. He was so moved by the spectacle at dawn, that he wrote what became the "Star Spangled Banner" and eventually chosen to be our national anthem.

The term "inspire" or "inspiration" in the Holy Bible is translated from the Greek "Theopneustos" and literally means, "the breath of God" or "God breathed" which is explained in at least one scripture thusly: ..."as the Spirit gave them utterance." (Acts 2:4 KJV)

So the claim is that every word of the Holy Bible is the words of God, inerrant and truth. Now, bear in mind that there are minor errors in some (if not all) translations which perhaps do not carry the precise language which God intended. But for the atheists and skeptics, don't get your "I told you so" too eager. There are none of the original scripture manuscripts still in existence, however, there are literally thousands of copies of the original. There are a few of those which have errors in them. But there are so very many which have the same wording that it is readily possible to recognize those with errors. These originals were written in Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek. The Bible has also undergone a number of translations, which in many cases have errors.

Unfortunately, there have been some translations which have been translated by individuals or groups and altered to meet their own ideas and views. Care has to be taken as to those which are considered authoritative.

(2) Another claim the Bible makes is that God does exist and that Jesus Christ His Son, was sent to live on this earth to furnish a means for man to have eternal salvation.

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." (Hebrews 11:6 KJV)

That statement not only assures us that there is a God, but also lets us know that we must believe in him. Those who choose not to believe in him have that freedom, however they relinquish their opportunity to live eternally with God by their disbelief.

The book of Genesis proves that God does exist in that it explains how our universe and we, ourselves, came to be in existence. I urge those who are skeptical to read the first chapter of Genesis where you will find the beginning story of the creation, and although it sounds fantastic, it is the only viable explanation there is.

Highly trained and educated scientists have struggled for many years to come up with a means whereby we may have gotten here without God. They have failed just as many years as they have struggled. Yet, the ancient writers from different nations and different periods of time have given us these Biblical truths which have survived the onslaught of those who would destroy them, some for approximately 4,000 and all for some 2,000 years. All those efforts have been totally ineffective. They have been unable to prove the tiniest bit of error from the original documents. That, in itself is sound proof that the Bible is inerrant.

(3) The Bible claims that Jesus is God's Son.

The coming of God to live among men has been taught throughout the Bible, over 300 prophecies of his coming all fulfilled in his birth, life, teachings, death, resurrection, an ascension back into heaven. After Jesus was resurrected from the dead and appeared before his disciples, he explains that we must believe in him as the Son of God, (John 20: KJV)

The entire New Testament is of and about Jesus who was sent here via miraculous birth of the virgin Mary. His teachings and the teachings of his inspired apostles contain all the information we need concerning life and Godliness. These claims are true and we cannot compromise on our belief in them. As said above, not one iota of error has been proven concerning the teachings from this holy book. Even though completely written almost 2,000 years ago, it has stood as an emblem of truth and, in all questions which have arisen through skeptics, where a firm resolution has been discovered, the Bible has been exonerated. It answers the question of how we came to be here, the resolution to all such questions which the naturalists insist upon without supernatural intervention. When even they know that matter could not have existed forever, and also it could not have 'naturally' formed from nothing. So they continue with their fantasies.
