College students have just been given a new opportunity to earn scholarship money. Havahart Wireless, the maker of electronic devices for canine containment, will provide one lucky winner with a cash prize toward their fall 2014 semester based on an essay submission.

Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited college or university. Incoming freshmen are also eligible to enter. Entries are due by August 11, 2014. Only one 500 word essay submission is permitted and must be based on one of the following topics:

  • The role of pets in today’s society
  • The therapeutic benefits of animals
  • New laws that could benefit animal welfare in the United States

Malory Spisak, Havahart Wireless category development associate, had this to say in the company’s recent press release:

“At Havahart Wireless, we’re committed to the safety and welfare of our four-legged friends. We see this scholarship as a way to encourage this commitment and enthusiasm for the well-being of animals.”

The winner will be announced on August 18, 2014. The winning essay will be published and featured in the new Havahart Wireless Learning Center, the company's online resource of information for pet owners including dog breed profiles, dog containment research, product consumer reviews and more.

For further information, submission requirements and scholarship eligibility, please visit Havahart’s website page.
