As teams start getting ready for the 2014 NFL season, a few players are finding themselves dealing with issues that have nothing to do with football. TMZ reported on April 10, 2014, that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is being investigated for a possible sexual assault that happened earlier this month in a hotel in Miami, Florida.
Trent Baalke, General Manager of the 49ers, has already issued a statement:
"The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts.”
The alleged incident happened at the Viceroy Hotel in Miami, and one source has said that the investigation is just in the "beginning stages" so far. There have been no charges filed by anyone and none against Kaepernick.
Neither Kaepernick or his agent have released a statement or comment.
Witnesses and friends that were with Kaepernick at the Viceroy Hotel on April 5, 2014, said that he could not have been friendlier. He was there with a wedding party and was said to have "made the bride's weekend."
If the allegations prove to be true or drag on, it could cause some issues for Kaepernick and the 49ers. He is a dual-threat quarterback and the leader of their offense, and they are seen as legitimate contenders to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
