Clearwater grocery store says no more GMOs in their store effective immediately

According to WFLA.com, a Clearwater, Florida news team, in an article dated August 27, there is a local grocery store in Clearwater, Florida called Nature's Food Patch market and cafe, that has decided there will be no more genetically modified (GMO) products sold from their shelves. Nature's Food Patch is so serious about keeping their product lines free of GMOs that they have also become the first grocery store in the nation to hire a full time employee that has a job description that says their job is to contact all the manufacturers that the grocery store buys from and make sure that GMOs are kept off the store shelves!

The store calls their new employee title, "genetically-modified organisms or GMO researcher" and her name is Patience Melton. She says, "It's my full time job to contact all the companies to find out if any ingredients in their products are genetically modified." According to WFLA of Clearwater Florida Melton says,"We are not trying to get into the debate of whether GMO foods are safe, we simply want our customers to have the knowledge they need to decide whether they want to buy these items."

Not only is this store stocking only non GMO products on their shelves immediately, but they are also verifying and labeling every product they sell with the Non GMO Project label, which is a third party verification and seal. However, if they can not get a Non-GMO version of a product right now, they are labeling the GMO products as such. They say it is for the customer to decide in the long run. In a time when about 92% of US citizens want GMOs labeled, the grocery store is said to be putting Whole Foods to shame because with the political and monetary pull Whole Foods has, they want to wait 5 years to label their own store. If it is so easy to switch over to non GMO products as Nature's Food Patch has shown us, then why is Whole Foods waiting so long?
