Today May 6, 2014 Zojoi Studios and Reverb Triple XP announced in a press release that one of the most well-known video games, Shadowgate, has been re-imagined for a new generation. This classic point-and-click adventure is headed for PC, Mac, iOS, and Android tablets later this summer. While the revamped Shadowgate may feature the same story and solutions as the original, one look at it and you'll swear you're playing absolutely different game. Don't believe us? Check out the trailer for yourself.
Zojoi Studios boasts the talents of the original Shadowgate: Karl Roelofs and Dave Marsh. The game's art has come a long way from its 8-bit origins, and the monsters you'll meet "at every turn" look scarier than ever. See them in the attached slideshow.
The original game was so popular it moved across platforms from the original Nintendo to the GameBoy Color, and even made an appearance on the Nintendo 64. Thanks to a Kickstarter, Roelofs and Marsh were able to completely rebuild the Shadowgate saga from the ground up using "today’s advanced technological and graphical capabilities."
According to Karl Roelofs, the design director at Zojoi Studios:
Dave and I are incredibly thrilled to be returning to Castle Shadowgate after all these years. When we created the MacVenture series, we knew we had something special on our hands - the initial response from gamers around the world was overwhelming! Shadowgate has remained near and dear to not only our hearts but to those who remember the haunting original, greatly evidenced by the support our Kickstarter campaign generated. The past few years we have been hard at work re-building and updating the Shadowgate experience and cannot wait to inspire, challenge, and terrify an entire new generation of players.
In addition to the gorgeous new artwork, Shadowgate also features "new mind-bending puzzles and more objects to interact with to help you on your quest."
Shadowgate will retail for $19.99, however those who pre-order the PC or Mac versions can score a 25% discount at $14.99. Additionally, there's an “Adventurer Pack” which comes bundled with wallpapers and a digital Shadowgate calendar and the ultimate “Hero Pack” that also boasts the complete digital soundtrack, digital art book, beta tester access with in-game credits, and access to the game one week before launch.
