Carman, one of gospel music's most popular performers announced on Feb. 14 that he has incurable myeloma cancer, a cancer of plasma cells. The 57-year-old singer and actor says he has been given three to four years to live.
Carman Domenic Licciardello sent his fans a message via his Facebook page and said he was going public for the following reasons:
"First, I want to put an end to all the rumors. Second, I ask for your prayers. And 3rd, I want you all to know that I will continue to minister and win souls until I can't do it any longer. My life has always been about ministry."
The evangelist asked that his fans not use the Facebook page to post cures and remedies because, "That would be depressing to everyone."
He added that what he would most like is for his fans to come see him next time he is in their area, saying, "Bring someone who doesn't know the Lord or who needs to be healed. I will always pray for the sick and I'm also going to step up the intensity of my message at these events. I will not leave this world quietly and I want the devil to know that he put cancer on absolutely the wrong Italian."
Carman became a born again Christian while attending an Andraé Crouch concert. He has released more than 25 albums.
