An American pastor, Saeed Abedini, is currently suffering a harsh prison sentence in Iran. In an attempt to bring his situation to the attention of the UN, a petition has been launched, and Christian artists like tobyMac, Natalie Grant, Jon Foreman, Bart Millard, Ricky Skaggs and others have joined the cause and are urging people to sign by March 1.
Recruited in high school by radical Islamists to become a suicide bomber, Saeed Abedini became a Christian when he was 20 after seeking to become a more devout Muslim. He joined a group of Iranian Christians where he became a leader. He met his wife Naghmeh, whose family left Iran when she was nine, when she returned to Iran for a visit in 2002. The Abedinis moved to the United States where Saeed became a U.S. citizen and lived with his family in Idaho where his wife grew up.
However, he was arrested in the summer of 2012 and imprisoned in the notorious Evin Prison by Iran's radical Islamic regime on a return visit. He has been beaten and tortured since his arrest, which is a common treatment of Christians in Iran. Join tobyMac, Natalie Grant, Jon Foreman, Bart Millard, Ricky Skaggs and other gospel artists in signing the petition here.
