On Feb. 2, Chris Kyle was shot in the back at a Texas gun range during a charity event. According to many sources, including Sky New via Yahoo, the former Navy SEAL and "American Sniper" author's body was discovered at Rough Creek Lodge's shooting range, located in Glen Rose, about 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
Another man was also found dead at the same gun range, but his identification has not been divulged. Meanwhile, eye witness accounts of the deadly situation said that another gunman fired at the men, hitting them squarely in the back, and then raced out of the scene in a pickup. The truck was a vehicle allegedly owned by one the victims, according to sheriff's investigators.
While motive has not been not discerned, a 25-year-old man who Kyle was helping and who suffers from post traumatic stress syndrome, is reportedly a person of interest in this case. He was taken into custody near Dallas.
By way of background, 38-year-old Chris Kyle called himself "a former SEAL dedicating his life to raising awareness for our warriors" on his Facebook page.
He penned "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History." In the missive, Kyle talks about killing 160 insurgents in the decade that began in 1999 when he served as a decorated SEAL in the Navy.
According to Huffington Post by way of the Stephensville Empire Tribune, insurgents dubbed Kyle "The Devil of Ramadi."
In another matter, Kyle's best-seller caused Jesse Ventura to sue Chris, taking issue about an incident described in the autobiography in which the author stated that he punched the former Minnesota Governor during a fight in 2006. This hard-hitting scuffle was caused when Ventura allegedly taunted Kyle with unpatriotic comments. Jesse claimed defamation, stating that this incident never happened. However, a court meet-up regarding the case was scheduled for August of this year.
That said, Chris Kyle continued to keep guns in his professional life even after leaving his post in the Navy during which time he took on four tours of duty for Operation Iraqi Freedom. After that, and after winning honors for bravery, Chris Kyle founded Craft International, a firm devoted to combat and weapons training. The company was designed to assist all kinds of clients, from civilians to members of the military to members of police forces to corporate types.
And so, as Chris Kyle, who is survived by a wife and two children, was reported shot dead, the retired 'lethal sniper' who was killed in a Texas gun range shoot-out, is gone in an ironic way given his life's work.
