NPR announced the winners of their 100 Best Beach Reads Ever today and the five chick lit titles discussed here are all represented.
Almost 16,000 people cast 136,000 votes and the book believed by many to have launched the chick lit genre cracked the Top 10. Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones's Diary came in at number four.
The remaining four "lit for chicks" selections on the list are:
#63 Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner
#87 One for the Money by Janet Evanovich
#95 Summer Sisters by Judy Blume
#97 How Stella Got Her Groove Back by Terry McMillan
Admittedly, the #6 choice, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells, #11 The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, and even #30 Twilight by Stephenie Meyer could also fall under the chick lit umbrella. It's just one of those things that only the chick lit reader can decide.
