February 4th 2014 is World Cancer Day and Chevrolet is running a special charity promotion in which anyone who uses Facebook or Twitter can help raise $1 million dollars for the American Cancer Society simply by adding a purple tint to their social network profile picture. Chevrolet is asking Facebook and Twitter users to “Purple Your Profile” and for every person who does so – Chevrolet (and General Motors, of course) will donate $1 dollar to the American Cancer Society as part of their Purple Roads fundraising campaign. Provided that enough Facebook and Twitter users turn their profile picture purple, the Detroit automaker will donate $1,000,000 to cancer research and patient support programs.
The Chevrolet “Purple Your Profile” charity promotion ends tomorrow but it only takes a few seconds for you to essentially instruct General Motors to donate $2 to the American Cancer Society. All you have to do is visit the Chevrolet website by clicking here and when you scroll down a bit, you will see the “Purple Your Profile” section with buttons to Purple Your Facebook and Purple Your Twitter. For each social networking site, you simply have to click the button, accept the terms (which allows this program to change the color of your profile picture) and the program takes it from there. Whether you are using Facebook, Twitter or both – this program takes your profile picture and turns it a soft shade of purple to show that you helped support the American Cancer Society. The image above shows what my Facebook profile picture of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 looks like before and after I purpled my profile.
For every person who visits the Chevrolet website and turns their profile picture purple, Chevrolet will donate $1 with a total goal of $1,000,000. The promotion is unclear whether you need to leave your Facebook and Twitter pictures purple through tomorrow (February 4th) or if you just need to have them be purple for a short time but since we are only talking about one day of having a purple profile picture at this point – there is really no excuse for every person who reads this article not to spend 30 seconds switching their profile picture over to purple for the next 24 hours or so. Those Facebook and Twitter users who are concerned about losing their non-purple profile picture can find their original image in the photo gallery section under profile pictures and when the Purple Your Profile programs creates your purple picture – it creates a new album just for this charity promotion.
So without further delay, click here to head to the Chevrolet website to Purple Your Profile and do your part to help General Motors reach their goal of $1,000,000 donated for World Cancer Day.
