With Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 winding up on February 25, Mercury Steam, the studio behind the LOS series, is all said and done with Dracula and the Belmonts. So where does that leave them and Konami? Game producer, David Cox says the relationship is far from over.

When asked about Mercury’s work over the past six years during an interview round-table session, Cox had nothing but praise for the Spain based studio ; noting a “bright future” that “Konami really believes in.”

Moving forward, Konami talked of expanding the studio for its next project, which included bringing Mercury Studio along as a “partner”. When asked if this meant creating a more permanent business relationship, Cox coyly replied, “yes.”

This new partnership has yet to be finalized, thus David Cox was unable to share more.

As for their next game:

“Umm, we’re working on a next generation project,” Cox confirmed. “And that’s all I can really say right now. It’s not Castlevania related, it’s completely different. But we’re working with Mercury Steam. That’s the main thing, Konami and Mercury Steam are continuing to work together.”

Considering the work done with Lords of Shadow, including the much evolved and more versatile looking sequel, it will be interesting to see what Mercury Steam and Konami come up with, to say the least.

We think good things will come from a strengthened partnership. Because, well, who wouldn’t want more good games in their future?

Mercury Steam’s finale: Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 is set to release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC for $59.99 on February 25 of this year.
