Carriage Barn Arts Center highlights works by Cuban artists

Absolut Kuba by Eduardo Miguel Abela Torrás

The Carriage Barn Arts Center located on 681 Park Ave. in New Canaan is showcasing works by emerging and established Cuban Artists in a new exhibition called Absolut Kuba! from April 26 through June 1, 2014. The centerpieces of this show are from the private collections of two Greenwich residents, Terri and Steven Certilman. The public is invited to attend the exhibition's opening reception on April 26 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

This exhibit showcases a noteworthy selection of pieces of contemporary art collected by the Certilman's over the past ten plus years. The online gallery of the Certilman's is a treasure trove of the diverse and interesting art of Cuba as well as other countries in the region.

Aboslut Kuba! showcases Cuban paintings and sculptures that reflect Cuban identity and its diverse cultural heritage including the political climate amid the backdrop of Cuba's isolation. The works on display are meant to express many emotions of the soul, beauty, and fortitude of the Cuban people.

The featured artist is Hector Frank, who will be making his US debut at the Carriage Barn Arts Center. Through this art exhibition, the organizers hope to educate visitors about what it means to be "Cuban" on a variety of multiple levels. In addition to Hector Frank other Cuban artists featured in this show include: Abel Barroso Arencibia, Roberto Fabelo, Juan Roberto Diago Durruthy, Carlos Guzmán Hernández, Manuel Mendive Hoyo, Harold López Muñoz, Manuel López Oliva, William Pérez, Ibrahim Miranda Ramos, Sandra Ramos, Angel Ramírez Roque, and Eduardo Miguel Abela Torrás.
