Carla, has always been about comfort food from her early days at Alchemy Catering Company in Washington DC, her dishes on Bravo’s Top Chef-All Stars and to her recipes on The Chew. “I’m all about comfort food made easy and accessible. And I’m all about lovin’ people: the people my food is inspired by and the people I’m creating the recipes for. I’ve brought those two passions together here with simple soulful recipes, drawn from the flavors and friends around the globe.” – Carla Hall

Each section of the book offers a brief description of a foundational recipe followed by some international variations. For instance: After a discussion of eggplant (including the difference between the Italian and Chinese varieties), you’ll find a recipe for Indian-inspired Spiced Eggplant Stewed with Potatoes and Tomatoes, and then a recipe for Italian Caponata, followed by Chinese Hot and Sour Eggplant Stirfry. The same type of ingredient-based ethnic variations can be found throughout the book, from Roasts to Short Ribs.

For those who love snapshots, there are plenty and even an international spice guide that pairs seasonings with their origins. There is also no denying her southern roots with recipes like “Cooked-To-Death-Delicious Green Beans with Potatoes”, “Salted Peanut Chocolate Pudding Tarts” or “Butternut Squash Tatin” CARLA’S COMFORT FOOD chapters include: Soups and Salads, Vegetables, Pickles and Preserves, Grains and Starches, Seafood, Chicken, Meat, Vegetarian Entrees, and Desserts.
