Introducing Canton’s restaurant dynamic duo, Mel Carter and Brett Lockard, partners in Blue Hill Tavern, Tavern on the Square and Shiso Tavern tavern crawl. It’s a party, inclusive of transportation and limited to up to 14 guests. The owners have been offering their tavern crawl for awhile, all sell-outs. They took the summer off and are back, full steam ahead, for the fall/winter season.
Before this gets lost, if you want a unique evening with friends and/or family contact Katrina at Blue Hill Tavern who can guide you through creating your own personalized Canton tavern crawl. Pricing varies with menus but think around the $65 to $75 per person range inclusive.
Come take a virtual tavern crawl
Kicking off the new season, their tavern crawl features tastes from their new menu items and beloved dishes from the three taverns. A small posse of media/social media folks came to crawl as their guests. We met at Blue Hill Tavern where Champagne and a light nosh of bacon jam, feta butter, olive tapenade, smoked salmon spread, chipotle hummus and crostini whetted our appetite until all had arrived. Running late, I took advantage of their complimentary valet parking.
And we’re off
We were escorted to their van awaiting us right in front of Blue Hill Tavern and chauffeured to their Shiso Tavern at O’Donnell Square. Shiso Tavern is known for it fresh, creative sushi and Asian fusion cuisine. Upstairs, our menus and sake sangria awaited us. The family style tastings proceeded with “new style” red snapper sashimi, spicy crunch roll, kamikaze roll and individual plates with a taste of the Hong Kong short ribs. Their sushi has always been impeccable and we weren’t disappointed.
Burning off a few calories
Out the door and a short walk half block down is Tavern on the Square, featuring contemporary American pub food with a slant to game and Maryland cuisine. The bar was hopping, sports on the televisions, people imbibing in craft beers and selections from the menu. It wasn’t long that we too were consuming craft beers; Stone Ruination IPA, Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue) and Pacifico to pair with the duck confit spring rolls, mini wild board burrito and the bison slicers the locals like to pile the crispy fried onion on top of the slider..
Can you say full?
We still had our final stop back at Blue Hill Tavern. Our chariot awaited us outside Tavern on the Square. Within five minutes we were back at one of the private dining rooms at Blue Hill Tavern where the cuisine is a bit more sophisticated of the three taverns. Here we enjoyed the benefits of their creative mixologists with a pomegranate punch –pomegranate orange infused vodka, cherry bitters, sparkling wine, autumn old fashion-Ivins famous spiced wafers, simple syrup, splash of water and port of Manhattan-rye, Dows ruby and white port.
Our entrees and dessert were next. Full or not, we each enjoyed seared tile fish with crispy polenta cake and romesco sauce and a three-hour petite braised hindshank of veal with risotto and osso bucco sauce. Dessert was apple empanadas. And what we couldn’t finish was graciously packed up for us in to-go containers.
We enjoyed getting to know each other, commiserating over food and drink. Smart phones flashing, fingers tapping away, social media was hot with posts from all of us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. And don’t let me forget to thank @bmorebrian for photo bombing one of my snaps – check out the slideshow.
