This will mark the first time since 1999 that a Canadian city will be hosting a World Cup. That year, Valcartier, Quebec hosted the world. Canmore last hosted a World Cup in biathlon in 1997. Since 2005 however, they have hosted four cross-country skiing World Cups.
The Canmore Nordic Center was the host site for cross-country skiing and biathlon at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
Canmore will be joined by Maine in 2016 as two North American World Cup stops on the International Biathlon Union tour.
In 2013-14, there are nine events on the International Biathlon Union World Cup stage, all taking place in Europe. Six of the events will take place before the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. The first stop will be in Ostersund, Sweden on November 24 with the last being in Holmenkollen, Norway on March 23.
