According to Beckie Scott of CBC Sports on Saturday, there is a Canadian connection to Norwegian cross country skier and Olympic bronze medalist Kristin Stoermer Steira.
Steira, who won the bronze medal in the women's 30km mass start freestyle cross country skiing competition on Saturday, is currently dating Canadian cross country skier Devon Kershaw of Sudbury, Ontario. Kershaw's best Olympic performance was finishing in fourth place with Alex Harvey of Saint-Ferreol, Quebec in the men's team sprint at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Steira becomes the second Olympic bronze medalist in two days who is currently dating a Canadian high performance athlete. On Friday, Swedish second Fredrik Lindberg won a bronze medal in men's curling when Sweden defeated China 6-4. Lindberg is currently dating Canadian curler Alison Kreviazuk of Ottawa, Ontario, who has won the last two Scotties Tournament of Hearts as a second for skip Rachel Homan.
Steira meanwhile was part of a Norwegian sweep on Saturday. Marit Bjoergen won the gold medal and Therese Johaug won the silver medal.
