According to the Sochi 2014 website, Canada will be playing Sweden in the gold medal game in men's hockey on Sunday at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

The Canadians will look for a different result than the last time they played Sweden for hockey gold, which was a classic at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer.

In this game twenty years ago, Peter Forsberg scored the shootout winner in a 3-2 Sweden victory. Then the Swedes preserved the victory when Tommy Salo stopped Paul Kariya. It would also be the last game in the Olympic hockey tournament where the National Hockey League was not an active participant.

Notable Swedes who won the gold medal with the hockey team that year included Hakan Loob and Mats Naslund. Other notable Canadians who won the silver medal were Chris Kontos, Petr Nedved, Corey Hirsch and Adrian Aucoin.

Since the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Canada won men's hockey gold at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, while Sweden won hockey gold at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin.
